2008 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN AND CHRYSLER

STANDARD SAFETY AND SECURITY

Five-Star Crash Test Rating

At Dodge, safety and security are a number one priority. In the 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan, both passive and active safety features, such as air bags, knee blockers, Electronic Stability Program (ESP) and anti-lock brakes, have been designed to give you peace of mind during your daily adventures.

Air Bag Protection

air_bags.jpg (34539 bytes)

In the event of an accident, Grand Caravan is equipped with air bag protection throughout the cabin. Advanced Multistage front air bags actually evaluate seated occupants for appropriate airbag output. In addition to protection by the body structure, side curtain air bags offer side-impact protection to front and rear seat outboard occupants.

Reinforced For Safety

reinforced.jpg (19049 bytes)

An important safety aspect of any vehicle is what it is made of. To help absorb the energy of impact, structural reinforcements of dual-phase steel are located in the octagonal front inner and outer rail, in a mid-dash cross member and in the engine cradle attachment posts. In addition, there are reinforced roof bows and high-strength reinforcements throughout.

Not only is Grand Caravan built with reinforced steel in key areas, but it was redesigned to enhance protection. For example, the front end is longer, as is the space between the front wheels and front passengers.

Secure Seating

When three people are sitting in the third-row seat, you can rest assured that each of them has a three-point seat belt for their protection.

Child seat anchors located in the second and third rows allow you to secure child seats by direct attachment to the vehicle seat structure, rather than by the vehicle's seat belts.

Integrated Child Seating

Grand Caravan's available integrated child seat offers the peace-of-mind of always having secure seating for your little ones or their visiting friends. One or two child seats can be included in the third row bench seat, so bring the whole gang along.

Emergency Accident Response System (EARS)

In the event of air bag deployment, the enhanced emergency accident response system switches on the interior lamps, unlocks the doors, turns on the hazard flasher exterior lamps and turns the engine off. This helps emergency personnel in their assistance efforts.

Obstacle Detection System

obs_detect.jpg (20229 bytes)

An obstacle detection system automatically opens the available power sliding doors and available power rear liftgate when an obstacle is detected during the closing process.

Electronic Stability Program (ESP)

The standard Electronic Stability Program[1] (ESP) is designed to assist drivers in maintaining control of their vehicles during extreme steering maneuvers. ESP senses when a vehicle is starting to spin (oversteer) or plow (understeer), and attempts to correct the vehicle's course by automatically controlling the throttle and applying the brakes at individual wheels.

Tuned for on-road activity during normal operation, the vehicle's traction control system helps maintain traction by applying the brakes and in some cases closing the throttle to minimize wheel spin during acceleration.

Suspension

To make challenging roads feel like pristine highway, the 2008 Grand Caravan features a new improved suspension. The new McPherson strut front-wheel drive architecture controls road noise and harshness, improves lateral stiffness and helps maintain stability during cornering for a more comfortable and controlled ride. In back, a new rear twist-beam suspension with coil springs provides better overall handling and ride comfort.

Antilock Braking System

anti_lock_brakes.jpg (12396 bytes)

Four-wheel antilock disc brakes are standard and equipped with electronic sensors to prevent wheel lockup, offering improved steering control under extreme braking, sudden stopping or slippery conditions.

Tire Pressure Monitor

tire_pressure_monitor.jpg (21895 bytes)

Maintaining accurate tire pressure is not only good for the life of your tires, but can help increase your cars fuel efficiency. A tire pressure monitor system is standard on all Grand Caravan models. The base system offers a warning indicator on the instrument cluster when a tire has low pressure.

Headlamps

Grand Caravan's available dual halogen headlamp system, with capable high and low beam options, offers excellent road visibility. Available front fog lamps produce a low, wide beam that illuminates the area immediately in front of the vehicle.

Interior Lighting

halo_light.jpg (19819 bytes)

Available Halo lighting provides a soft glow of light that fills the cabin and offers the driver and front passenger the opportunity to keep an eye on activity in back.

Available personal, targeted LED lights allow passengers to read, write or play at night without distracting the driver. Focused LED lights also shine down onto cup holders from the available overhead rail console.

Load up Grand Caravan with confidence in the brightly lit space provided by convenient illuminated entry.

Removable LED Flashlight

led_flashlight.jpg (19014 bytes)

When it's dark, you've got the advantage with Grand Caravan's available removable, rechargeable LED Flashlight. Mounted in the rear right trim panel, this dual-purpose light offers quick access to light when you need it.

Theft Deterrents

Optional Alarm System

All Grand Caravan models are equipped with a Sentry-Key® antitheft deterrent system. This highly effective vehicle theft deterrent makes it virtually impossible to drive the vehicle without a valid key. Grand Caravan also comes with the available Vehicle Theft Security Alarm that monitors both the ignition and the door- and liftgate-ajar switches to detect unauthorized entry.

Remote Keyless Entry

remote_entry.jpg (15740 bytes)

For added peace of mind, remote keyless entry is standard on Grand Caravan. A touch of a button on the key fob will unlock the vehicle's front doors, and if properly equipped, the power sliding side doors and rear liftgate.

Wind Tunnel Testing

ss_wind.jpg (40700 bytes)

Hours of rigorous wind tunnel testing allow for measurements of every aspect of aerodynamic performance including interior sound. In addition to strategically placed sound dampening materials, Grand Caravan's structural design adds to its quiet interior atmosphere.

Durability

ss_durability.jpg (33029 bytes)

As part of a rigorous noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) regimen, extensive four-post shaker testing not only measures overall durability of the vehicle, it pinpoints and addresses any road noise issues. In addition, testing is conducted under extreme conditions of hot and cold to further ensure reliable durability.

A new front-suspension architecture, new rear twist-beam suspension with coil springs and larger wheels and wider tires increase confidence on the road by improving ride quality, quietness and handling.

Quiet Ride

quite_ride.jpg (30830 bytes)

Step inside and leave noise behind. Engineered into the 2008 Grand Caravan, are systems that decrease road, powertrain and wind noise, increasing sound-system and conversation quality.

Sound dampening materials are applied to areas where noise can reverberate including the roof, wheel wells, floor, dash, doors and windshield. There is even a sound dampening substance that adheres to the sheet metal during the paint baking process.
